Flea infestation is one of the most annoying problems faced by you and your pet. It only takes a few fleas to start an infestation. Female fleas lay 40-50 eggs each day! This problem will not go away on its own and needs to be dealt with. 95% of a pet's flea population can live in your home. If your pet suffers from a flea infestation, it is also important to treat the environment as well as your pet. Flea larvae and flea eggs can lie in carpets and furniture, waiting to re-infest.
Black, pepper-like specks in your pet's coat is often a sign of fleas. These specks, known as flea dirt, are flea droppings. To make sure it is flea dirt, collect the specks using a fine comb and drop them on a wet piece of paper towel. If they dissolve into a red smudge (blood), you know your pet has fleas.
Talk to your Veterinarian about flea control products. We have found other products such as flea collars and widely available flea drops, are not as effective as the ones your pet health professional will recommend.

Ticks:
Pricing: $5 per tick
Ticks are another parasite that your pet may be carrying without your knowledge. The female tick will latch on a pet (or human) and gorge herself with blood before coming back off to lay her eggs in the environment. Ticks can be carriers of lyme disease which can affect humans. Although it has not proven to be a great concern for our region yet, New Brunswick is on the watch as ticks are more common in the North Eastern parts of the US.
